Black Tech Lead’s Engagement with Top US Diplomats on African Youth Technology

“The world you are comfortable living in and leaving behind is the one you are bold enough to create.” This profound conviction, articulated by Charity Ofosuhene, our founder and Director, is not just a saying; it’s the very heartbeat that fueled the birth of Black Tech Lead. We understand that innovation rarely thrives in certainty, yet we embraced the unknown, pressing forward with an unwavering belief in the potential of young African talent.

In 2024, it was a distinct honor for Black Tech Lead to participate in a truly distinguished panel discussion. We found ourselves in the company of influential leaders such as Kurt Campbell, US Deputy Secretary of State; Virginia Palmer, US Ambassador to Ghana; Kitty Andang, Acting Mission Director for USAID West Africa; Molly Phee, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of African Affairs; Richard Michaels; Grace Pringles; and Professor Samuel Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA. This gathering was more than just a meeting; it was a vibrant confluence of minds, all committed to a shared vision for Africa’s technological future.

Our discussions throughout the event honed in on the critical task of cultivating an ecosystem where young Africans can not only conceive but also bring to life groundbreaking tech solutions. We delved into the boundless opportunities emerging in health technology, the transformative power of artificial intelligence, and the vital role of data in shaping our future. A particular moment of pride came when the Acting Mission Director commended my response to a question posed by the Secretary General himself, underscoring the relevance and impact of our perspective.

To all the young innovators, the digital pioneers, and the future shapers out there, remember this vital truth: our generation carries the unique responsibility of solving the complex problems that define our time. Do not shy away from the challenge; instead, let it ignite your passion. Keep creating, keep iterating, and above all, keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible. The future is not a given; it is a canvas awaiting your boldest strokes.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Project Director of YALI RLC West Africa in Accra and the entire team for orchestrating such a special and impactful invitation. It is through such collaborations that we truly build the world we wish to see.
